Unsubscribing From Negativity

Written By Patrick Mathieu — Category: Mindful Moment @ 1:09 pm

My goal with the Mindful Moment newsletter is to give you something interesting, inspiring and thought-provoking to think about each week. I’ve had many people tell me how much they look forward to receiving them and I consider it an honor to be invited into your “inbox”. However, if the tone and content of Mindful Moment, suddenly turned negative, I’ll bet that it wouldn’t take people long to click on the “unsubscribe me” link at the bottom of each e-mail message, would it? After all, who wants to have a negative message e-mailed to them once a week?

Now stop and think about your life.

How many negative messages do we receive in a day? They might come from the media, coworkers, clients, suppliers, spouses, family, friends, acquaintances or even complete strangers. If you really stop and think about it, how much negativity is there in your life?

My next question is a simple one, but one that you need to think seriously about…

“Isn’t life too short and too precious to allow it to be consumed by any amount of negativity?”

I’m not talking about constructive criticism or legitimate feedback, I’m talking about outright negativity. We all know people who just seem to bring drama, grief and despair with them, wherever they go. My friend Jon Gordon calls them “Energy Vampires” - a wonderfully descriptive term.

So why do we allow these people to suck the life out of our days? You may be thinking, “Yes, but I have to put up with this person”. Let me challenge that - do you? Is it really worth it?

You wouldn’t voluntarily sign up for a negative e-mail newsletter, so why “sign up for” negative media, coworkers, clients, suppliers, spouses, family, friends, acquaintances or strangers? Do yourself a huge favor - the next time you see them, click their “unsubscribe me” button and release them from your precious life.

ENJOY NOW!
